TextSnap Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10 September 2026

TextSnap is an app that extracts text from images, scans QR codes and translates text on your device.

No account

TextSnap has no sign-in, no registration and no user account. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other identifier, and we do not create a profile for you.

Earlier versions of TextSnap used Google Sign-In. That has been removed — the app now opens straight to the scan screen and no account data is collected or stored.

Images and extracted text

When you take a photo or choose an image, TextSnap reads the text on your device using Google ML Kit. Your images and the text extracted from them are not uploaded to our servers.

Recognised text, a reference to the source image and a small preview are saved in a local history on your device so you can reopen earlier scans. The last 30 scans are kept. You can delete a single scan or clear the whole history from inside the app, and everything is removed when you uninstall.

Translation

Translation also runs on your device. The first time you use a language, Google ML Kit downloads that language pack from Google’s servers; this needs an internet connection and is subject to Google’s own privacy policy. After the download, translation works offline. The text you translate is not sent anywhere.

To tell a missing language pack apart from a failed download, the app makes a connectivity check to a Google endpoint (clients3.google.com/generate_204). That request contains no personal data.

QR codes

QR and barcode scanning happens in the camera preview on your device. Scanned codes are stored in a local history of the last 40 codes, which you can clear in the app. Opening a scanned link hands it to your browser.

Permissions

Sharing and export

When you copy, share or save text as a TXT or PDF file, you choose the destination through your device’s share sheet. TextSnap does not send that content anywhere on its own.

Diagnostics

TextSnap keeps a small record of how each scan performed — the image’s pixel size, how long recognition took, how many lines were found, and whether it came back empty — so problems with text recognition can be understood and fixed.

This record never contains the recognised text or the image itself, and it is never sent anywhere on its own. It lives on your device, you can view it under Settings → Diagnostics, clear it there at any time, and it is deleted when you uninstall. It only leaves your phone if you tap Share and choose where to send it.

If a scan finds no text, the result screen offers to share that image. Nothing is sent unless you pick a destination yourself.

Ads

TextSnap shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To do that the Google Mobile Ads SDK is included in the app, and it may access your device’s advertising ID — a resettable identifier Android provides for advertising. You can reset it, or switch it off entirely, in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

Whether those ads are personalised — selected using a profile of your interests — follows the choices you make in the consent form described below. Where you decline personalisation you still see ads, but non-personalised ones. In regions where no consent form is required, Google’s own defaults apply.

Either way, to deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and sends to Google:

That processing is covered by Google’s Privacy Policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region where consent is required, TextSnap asks for your choices before any ad is requested, using Google’s consent form. You can change those choices at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options inside the app.

Ads never see the text you extract, the images you scan, or your scan history — those stay on your device and are not shared with Google or anyone else.

Third-party services

TextSnap contains no analytics SDK and no tracking beyond the ad serving described above. It does not collect usage statistics.

Children

TextSnap is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them. Apart from the ad-serving data listed above, the app collects no personal data.

Your data

Everything TextSnap stores stays on your device:

There is no account to delete and no server-side copy of your scans. The advertising ID is held by your device, not by us — reset or disable it in Android Settings.
